Teague woman arrested for trafficking

Thanks to concerned family members one girl is safe and a 37-year-old Teague woman is being held in the Freestone County Jail on a $250,000 bond. Amber Michelle Parker, a Mexia ISD reading teacher, was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 2, after an investigation showed she was attempting to sell an underage female relative to multiple men in Morocco.

Justice of the Peace 4 Judge Shirley Mays originally set Parker’s bond at $25,000. Mays was unavailable for comment as of presstime Tuesday. No attorney has been listed for Parker.

Local woman arrested for online trafficking

Combined efforts of McLennan County and Freestone County Sheriff’s Offices have led to the arrest Wednesday, Jan. 2, of a Mexia teacher, accused of trafficking a child online to people in Morocco.

Amber Parker, 37, is employed as an eighth-grade reading teacher, according to the Mexia ISD website. Her Facebook page lists her as a resident of Teague.

Lawsuits, pleas continue between cities

In case No. CV18334, the City of Fairfield (CoF) filed a plea to the jurisdiction against a lawsuit filed against them by the City of Teague (CoT) back on Sept. 18, which was scheduled to be heard Wednesday, Nov. 28. However, the attorney for the CoT requested a continuance of the case Monday, Nov. 26.

Freestone County's 77th District Court Judge Patrick H. Simmons ruled in favor of the continuance for the CoT and will be heard on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019.

Minor injuries in Teague rollover

At 5:40 a.m., Friday, Nov. 30, 38-year old James Barrentine III, of Teague, found himself facing the opposite direction after a scary ordeal.

Barrentine said, “[My vehicle] rolled three times. I am not sure how I got facing that way. I just closed my eyes and held on.”

DAR officials announce local essay winners at meeting

Five area students were named winners in the Jonathan Hardin Chapter essay contests. Hannah DeFriend, a junior at Groesbeck High School, earned first place in the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest. This contest was sponsored by NSDAR and the National Italian American Foundation for students in grades 9-12. The essay theme was “Comparing Ship Technology: The Ships Columbus Used Versus the Ships of Today.” Winning the American History Essay Contest were:
