Grand Band places 1st, gets police escort back home

After placing first in the marching competition, Fairfield High School's Grand Band from Eagle Land were escorted back into town by Freestone County Sheriff's Deputy Preston Cordova and FISD's Chief Billy Barlow. The band earned a Superior rating for the first time in 13 years during the marching event at Waco/Midway Saturday afternoon. The 183-member band impressed the audience with their famous 123 diagonal freeze to bring the audience to their feet! School board talks changes, band uniforms

There will be changes made to the DAEP/ABP program at Fairfield in the upcoming school year. Currently, Fairfield is in a cooperative with Buffalo ISD, Dew ISD, and Wortham ISD for students in alternative classes for behavior and disciplinary issues.

Buffalo recently informed FISD of their intent to pull out of the coop due to rising costs. Rather than accept the dramatic increase in costs, the board of managers – made up of superintendents from each district – chose to dissolve the cooperative effective July 1. There will still be an alternative school in Fairfield but it will now be housed at the high school campus under Principal Von Wade and the school will hire one teacher to oversee the class.
