Awards given to FJH students

Eighth grader Ally Robinson was awarded three prestigious awards last week during the end of year award ceremonies at Fairfield Junior High School. Robinson earned her name on the following plaques:

  •  Elton Moore Humanitarian Award
  •  Jeff McBay Academic Award
  •  American Legion Post 288 Citizenship Award

Fellow 8th grader Valeria Ramirez was awarded the John Perona Citizenship Award, while Gage Lane also earned a spot on the American Legion Post 288 Citizenship Award plaque. Seventh grader Jonathan Thomas was given the Johnnie Pye Citizenship Award and Andrew Fantroy, 6th grade, earned a spot on the Suzann Leadbetter Citizenship Award.

FJH seeking community votes for National Education Contest

Fairfield Junior High's Digital Media class, taught by Tammy Gawryszewski, has entered a $200,000 national education contest hoping for a chance at one of 13 prizes that will be awarded to recognize the most unique and inventive K-12 program. In addition to completing an online application for the annual Follett Challenge, FJH Digital Media students also submitted a short video to promote its program that teaches the 21st century skills needed to be prepared for life.

School board OKs new hires

Fairfield school board last week approved the hire of five new staff members for various positions throughout the district. The 2016-17 school year is set to begin Wednesday, Aug. 24. New hires
