Girls take 4th, boys 10th at Emory Rains Invitational

Fairfield was well-represented Saturday, Jan. 27, as the powerlifting team competed against 15 other schools at the Emory Rains Invitational Powerlifting Meet. Girl powerlifters placed 4th, while the boys placed 10th overall.

Brittani Oglesbee named Student of the Year

Senior Brittani Oglesbee earned the Student of the Year award from FISD Superintendent Tony Price.

Fairfield Superintendent Tony Price named four teachers of the year and a student of the year who is on her way to becoming valedictorian of her graduating class at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet held last Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Depot X -- a business which was awarded Business of the Year.

The Fairfield High School Fall Production will be "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson, adapted by Joseph George Caruso. The Drama Club will perform Saturday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. “Acting has always been a passion for me, and the group we have this year is a special one,” sophomore Emma Copeland said. “I’m super stoked for the play.”

Students celebrate Red Ribbon Week at area schools

Students celebrated being drug free during a fun week at both Fairfield's junior high and high school. Each day sported a different theme and high school officials hosted an anti-drug poster contest. Winning posters were chosen based on creativity, anti-drug message, and artwork. High school winners were:

Lady Eagles run away with title of Golden Eagle Run

Fairfield's Lady Eagles cross country team ran off and left their competition Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Golden Eagle Run on their own course. The Eagles didn't do so badly, either, finishing second to Mexia. Morgan Coleman and Madison Smith finished first and second to pace the Lady Eagles to the title, 31 points ahead of second place.

CNB sending teachers to educator conference

Community National Bank and Trust Vice President Teresa Duke (left) got the opportunity to tell FISD teacher Bryant Smith (right) that the bank was sending him to the 8th Annual National Educator Conference.

Corsicana – Community National Bank & Trust announced that it is sending nine teachers to the Jump$tart National Educator Conference (#JSNEC16) in November, including a 3-day stay at the Dallas Intercontinental Hotel in Addison. The conference aims to provide teachers with the tools, training, encouragement and experience to educate PreK-12 students in personal finance. “We are very excited to send Bryant Smith from Fairfield ISD to the conference,” said Teresa Duke, VP/Loan Officer. “This is a great opportunity to send a teacher from our community to learn more about financial literacy and then implement it back into the classroom.” The national Jump$tart Coalition is presenting its 8th annual conference, which gives attendees the opportunity to see, learn about, and try educational resources to integrate immediately into current lesson plans in addition to networking with colleagues from across the country.

FISD superintendent announces resignation

Citing personal reasons, Richard A. Edwards has announced his resignation as Superintendent of Schools for the Fairfield Independent School District.  An Agreement has been reached which allows Mr. Edwards the ability to pursue other interests and permits the Board to pursue hiring another Superintendent.  The Board and Mr. Edwards have entered into the Agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and in the best interests of the District.

On behalf of the entire District, the Board of Trustees expresses its sincere appreciation to Mr. Edwards for his efforts while serving as Superintendent of this great school district and its wonderful students, staff, parents and administrators, and for the many achievements and accomplishments of the entire District team during Mr. Edwards’s tenure as Superintendent.

6th grade orientation slated

Fairfield Junior HIgh School is hosting orientation for incoming sixth graders at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, in the cafeteria. All incoming 6th graders and their parents are encouraged to attend. Any 6th graders unable to attend the orientation will be able to pick up their class schedules any day after Aug. 11 in the junior high office.
