I went to high school way back in the last century…the 60’s, and at my small Class A school, weights weren’t even a mainstay for the football players, who were mostly hard working farm boys, by the way! In that distant, more chivalrous time, we had the audacity to think that girls were the “weaker sex”, and I seriously doubt that lifting weights any heavier than a basketball ever crossed most of their minds! However, one half of a century has come and gone since those simpler times, and girls are now, how shall I put it…tougher! Last Saturday, March 5th, this writer went to his first ever Power Lifting Meet, and it was the Lady Eagles Regional Meet, hosted by Fairfield, at the JAC, the local high school basketball arena.
