Donations needed for local family

Donations are needed for a local family after a weekend fire took their home in the Westwood Addition of Fairfield. Kaylee Crook, Greg Stewart, and their two children were not home at the time of the fire.

Fairfield Fire Chief Matt Foree reported Engine 83 arrived at the double-wide home and found heavy smoke and fire. As Foree’s crews began attacking the fire, Teague VFD, Dew VFD, and Wortham VFD arrived on the scene and began working to

Firefighters fought a losing battle Wednesday, Sept. 5, on FM 2547 outside of Fairfield when a single story home went up in flames. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the roof when fire departments arrived. Fairfield VFD reported the fire began in the attic of the home. The home reportedly belonged to Kelly Allison and Josh DeLeon, who were not home when the fire began. Fire officials said the crew entered the home and began an offensive fire attack. Two firefighters were treated by Fairfield EMS for heat-related emergencies. Assisting in this fire was Teague VFD, Wortham VFD, Streetman VFD, Southern Oaks VFD, Dew VFD, Fairfield EMS, and Freestone County Sheriff’s Office.

Have you ever had a short Fire Department Captain walk up to you and say "Get out of your house!" I did and I was glad and was made to feel very thankful. We had an experience at my home in Lakewood that I wouldn't wish on anyone.
