Election filings underway

Although the county has no election this year, city council and school board are gearing up for early voting in April as each have three seats open.

Up for council re-election are Place 3 Keith Daniels, Place 4 Landis Bayless, and Place 5 Jason Bosley. Although election packets have been picked up for city council, none were turned in by presstime Tuesday.

The deadline to apply for the election is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15.

FISD Interim Superintendent Tony Price reported three places up for election on the school board, for which one application has been submitted

"No comment" in Looney termination

During the executive session April 24, city council members chose to keep Jeff Looney in his position of city administrator; however, within one week a special meeting was called in which he was fired. According to an affidavit to Mayor Roy Hill and City Attorney Linda Sjogren, Looney was instructed in the April 24 session to write a letter of resignation for his file in case "this ever happened again."

City, school elections underway

The filing deadline to seek election for the Fairfield ISD school board, as well as Fairfield city council ended Friday, Feb. 16, with four individuals filing for school board and ??? filing for city council. There are two places on FISD's board of trustees and the following individuals have filed for election:

  • n Incumbent Eric Chavers
  • n Kirby Capps Flandry
  • n Willie Dowell
  • n Tony Leadbetter

Fifteen year incumbent Blake Robinson announced he will not seek re-election this year. After Mayor Roy Hill announced the end of his mayoral career, two men vye for the seat.

Early voting begins April 24

City elections are in full swing with early voting beginning Monday, April 24. Election day is slated for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 6, for City Council Places 3, 4, and 5 at City Hall, 222 S. Mount Street in Fairfield. Those seeking election are:
