In recognition of Pediatric Stroke month and in honor of Fairfield resident Alex Ward, Cooper Craddick gave a presentation on the disease at last week's school board meeting. Craddick, an intermediate school student, discussed how strokes occur, what it can do to your body, and symptoms of a stroke.
Craddick is a Fairfield 4-H Club member and recently competed at the District 8 4-H Round Up in an educational presentation about health to let everyone know that “Kids have strokes, too.”
She placed first in this competition and was eager to do the presentation again during the month of May.
Strokes can happen at any age – young, old, and even to unborn babies. Strokes are one of the top 10 causes of childhood death and can have lasting effects. There are two main types of strokes, Ischemic and Hemorrhagic. Craddick also talked about TIA – or mini-strokes – which do not cause lasting damage, but should be a warning that a full blown stroke can occur.
