Lots of draws for youngsters at Kid Fish Derby

One major attraction for the annual Kid Fish Derby this Saturday is bringing parents and their children together. The derby will be from 8 a.m. to noon at Fairfield Lake State Park.

McMillian excels at 3 levels

Choicetta McMillian

Choicetta McMillian was a standout basketball player at Fairfield High School and at Hampton University – and now she has been recognized as 3A Assistant Coach of the Year for 2014 by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC).
The Lady Eagles assistant coach was honored during the TABC banquet Saturday night in San Antonio.

Bandit Girls undefeated

Competing in the Freestone County Soccer Association, the Bandits Girls soccer team will play Real Madrid and finish their season next week. After eight games, the Girls remain undefeated with six wins and two ties. Letters of intent signed

The three senior standouts on this year's Lady Eagle basketball team - from left sitting, Tiara Tatum, Bree Bossier and Ainsley Richardson - signed with three colleges during a ceremony that drew family, coaches and friends at Fairfield High School Friday. Standing behind the girls are their parents, from left: Tiara’s parents, Willie Tatum and  Amelia McMillian; Bree’s parents, Rachel and Scott Bossier; and Ainsley’s parents, Jackie Richardson and Danny Richardson. Tatum signed with Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Bossier with Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., and Richardson with Arlington Baptist College in Arlington.

Girls, boys track members advance to area

Fairfield Lady Eagles captured the District 19-3A track meet last week in Palestine and will send 16 team members to the 2014 area track meet Wednesday in Carthage.
The area meet begins at noon Wednesday and will pit 3A districts 19 and 20 qualifying for regionals in Humble.
“We were second last year and again have a great chance to win this (area) meet,” said Lady Eagles track head coach Stephen Heers.

First-place finishes help power the Lady Eagles track to claim the Fairfield Invitational with 263 points Thursday, March 27.
Autumn Dziedzic, Dani German, Sarie Hill and Jaida Smith ranked first in the 4X400 M Relay, coming in at 4:22.20.

Eagles strike quick in win over Palestine

The Fairfield Eagles flew out to a fast start against Palestine Friday night and never looked back while beating the Wildcats 16-1 to end the first round of district play.
The Eagles scored quickly to open the game as the first six players crossed home plate in the first inning.
Colby Minze opened the game with a single.
Caleb Scires drove him home with his second home run in consecutive games.
Chance Carroll with hit by a pitch and moved to third on a double off the wall by Luke Rachel.

Lady Eagles begin with win at Madisonville Tournament

The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead on Navasota and captured a 12-1 victory on Friday, March 7, at Madisonville tournament.
Seven runs in the first three innings allowed the Lady Eagles (8-9) to put the game away early.
A two-run single by Kaleigh Williford, a bases-loaded walk by Bre Faughn, an error, and a sacrifice fly by Jessica Sloat during the first inning and a groundout by Faughn in the second inning supplied the early offense for the Lady Eagles.
Caitlynn Stone racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Lady Eagles. She tripled in the second inning and singled in the first and fifth innings.
