Fundamentals taught at basketball camp

Coach Stephen Heers kicked off the annual girl’s basketball camp July 21 at Fairfield High School (FHS).
Heers is the offensive coordinator and head coach at FHS, as well as the main basketball coach for the past five years.
Roughly 30 girls signed up for the camp, ranging in age from first grade to high school.

Softball State Championship

Forty-two teams participated in the 12UIFA/VDT Softball State Championship last weekend in College Station. Freestone County was represented by three players on the 1st place Young Guns team, who were undefeated in the tournament and qualified to advance to the National level. The Fairfield varsity and junior varsity cheerleading teams attended a private National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) summer camp at Fairfield High School June 9-11.
NCA cheer camps promote technical training, leadership and discipline.
NCA selects award winners at each of its camps around the world each summer.
Founded in 1948, NCA administers camps, competitions and special events for nearly 200,000 participants each year.

Taylor proves small horses more than pets

Nancy Taylor, of Kirvin, entered her first driving event competition, Romp in the Willows with her miniature pony in Weatherford last week. Taylor came home VSE (very small equine) Champion by winning the Cross Country and Cones class. She also placed fourth in obstacles. “Miniature horses can be so much more than just pets and lawn ornaments,” said Taylor. “Just give them a chance!”

Fairfield Senior Boys Little Dribblers win national

The Fairfield Senior Boys Little Dribblers show off hardware after winning national tournament in Levelland recently.

Fairfield Senior Boys Little Dribblers won the Little Dribblers National Tournament in Levelland April 30-May 3.
The boys began the tournament with a win over Cleveland and followed with a hard fight against Westwood.
A victory over Buna put the young eagles in the championship game.
This is the sixth championship win for the Fairfield boys in the past six years.
