Cynthia Mims

The Angel of Silence entered Cynthia Diane Mims' life on May 8, at her residence in Dallas, among loving family and devoted friends. The visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 700 W. Feeder Rd. in Fairfield, with Rev. E.A. Anderson, Pastor, officiating minister Min. Jesse Jones; and Eulogist Rev. W.C. Anderson. Interment services were held at Hopewell Cemetery in Fairfield. Diane was the fourth child born to Edd Wesley Mims and Mary Ella Mims, of Fairfield. She attended Dogan School and Fairfield High School in Fairfield. Diane was a woman of strong faith. No matter the day, she would always throw up her hands and say, "God is Good!" She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Southside Church of Christ. Diane was also a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.A.

Alberta L. Harvey was born November 11, 1965, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Robert Harvey, Sr. and Alberta M. Harvey. The family of Alberta L. Harvey let her go with the Angelic Host on May 5. Viewing and visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moore's Angelic Funeral Home Chapel Friday, May 13. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Moore's Angelic Chapel in Teague. Interment followed in the Grove Island Cemetery in Teague. Ms. Harvey attended Byram High School in Jackson, Mississippi. She also attended Tyler Jr. College in Tyler, and Navarro Jr. College in Corsicana. She received her Christian Education at Mt. Eva Missionary Baptist Church in Terry, Mississippi; Union Primitive Baptist Church in Teague and Salvation Lighthouse Church of God In Christ in Mexia. Ms. Harvey was employed at Shamrock Ministry in Tyler; Texas and Security Support; and Mexia State School in Mexia. Her passion was for reading, computer science, and spending time with "Pooh" (Ariana).

Linda Lou Nichols Huffman, 76, of Teague, passed away May 4. Funeral services were at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 8, at the First Baptist Church in Teague with Rev. Scott Matthews officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family was from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Linda was born in Teague on February 10, 1940, to John Fred and Mary Ellen Bass Nichols. She grew up in Teague and was a graduate of Teague High School Class of 1957. She returned to Teague, after 40 plus years of working in Houston for Champion Paper, Tenneco, and as an executive assistant for El Paso Energy, where she retired. Linda was a loving, unselfish, and caring person who loved doing for people; she always put others first. She also loved animals and adopted every stray kitten that came around their home. Her hobbies consisted of playing bridge and working in the yard. Linda was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Teague.

Janice Sartor Turner

Funeral services for Mrs. Janice Sartor Turner were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Teague with Bro. Johnny Veretto and Rev. Jerry Fulton officiating. Interment followed the services at Union Cemetery near Freestone. Visitation was held Friday, May 6, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Turner passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 4, in an automobile accident near Teague. She was born in Teague on November 14, 1937, and was a lifelong resident of Teague. She graduated from Teague High School with the class of 1956, and attended Navarro College. Janice worked in various banking jobs beginning with First National Bank in Teague. She later went to work for Bi-Stone Savings and Loan in Mexia and opened a branch in Teague as the manager. After the Teague branch closed, she returned to Bi-Stone in Mexia before moving to First National Bank of Mexia where she remained until her retirement.

Mollie Davis Walker, 56, passed away April 2, at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. She was born on June 1, 1959, to Ruby and William "Jack" Davis in Teague. She graduated from Leon High School in 1977, then graduated from Jacksonville Baptist College in 1979. She later completed her education with a Master's degree from Midwestern State University. She worked in Human Resources for TXU/NRG for over 35 years combined. She was a very active, vibrant lady. She loved riding her bike, hiking, going on adventures, traveling, and learning new things; however, her favorite pastime was spending time with those she loved.

Betty June Nicholson, 86, of Fairfield, passed away on Friday, April 8. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Capps Memorial Chapel. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. with Bro. Don Suits, II officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin, Texas. Pallbearers were Jason Barlow, Christian Nicholson, Mario Jimenez, Lillian Parker, Joey Watson, and Will Bonner. Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Rufus Jackson, Sr.

Rufus Jackson, Sr.

Mr. Alfonzo and Mrs. Vernada Carter Jackson welcomed their newborn son, Rufus, on February 19, 1935. He was the fifth of nine children in the Jackson family and, as the hand of God would direct, he spent all of his life in the Grove Island Community. Rufus accepted Christ at the age of 13 and became a member of the Grove Island African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church under the leadership of Rev. J.E. Ross.

Rufus attended the Furney Richardson School. As a teenager he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. He also participated in the New Farmers of America and exhibited his animals in county, district, and state competitions.

He even exhibited animals during the annual State Fair of Texas in Dallas. He graduated from the Furney Richardson School in May 1953.
