Peggy Camille Baker was born in Richland on June 23, 1933, and went to be with the Lord on Jan. 7. Peggy was raised in the East Texas Oilfield at Turnertown by her mother, Bonnie Moore Holland and her father, Cherry Holland. She came to know the Lord as a child in Turnertown. She graduated from Gaston High School and attended Tyler Jr. College and was part of the Apache Belles, then went on to graduate from the University of Texas in Austin. Peggy had a busy career as a secretary, but her most important role was that of a mother. She married Hulon David Baker, from Grapeland, in 1959. They had three children, Cheryl Pillans, of Winkler; Mari Anne Corker, of Dallas; and David Layne Baker, of San Antonio.

Mary Current Adams passed away Jan. 4, in Dallas, at the age of 62. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia with Bro. Tommy Lance officiating. Visitation with the family was 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service Tuesday. Mary was born October 6, 1954, in Fairfield, to Sam and Omah Faye Lance Carter. She was in administration for Texas Baptist for a number of years. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother; her world revolved around her family, especially the grandchildren. She enjoyed family gatherings, arts and crafts, crocheting, and babysitting. Mary was also a devoted Christian whose faith in God was strong.

Joe Curtis Pate was born to R.E. Pate, Sr. and Lorine Scott Pate, in Donie. He grew up in Donie, and attended Donie and Teague public schools. He was a member of the New Spring Seat Baptist Church of Donie. Joe was employed with Turner Feed and Buffalo Creek Ranch, all of Donie, and M.D. Construction, of Fairfield.

Dr. Grayson Glass

Grayson Glass, 87, of Texas City, was born May 22, 1929, in Streetman, to Jack Glass and Belle (Steel) Glass.
 The family relocated to Old Ocean, Texas where he attended Sweeney High School. After graduation, he attended the University of Corpus Christi where he majored in music and met his future wife, Patsy Evelyn Waskow, from Damon, Texas.

After a brief courtship, the coupld married on September 4, 1951. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. During college, Grayson felt the call to preach and became pastor of First Baptist Church, Collegeport, Texas. This would be the beginning of a 65-year ministry.

David Wooten, 65, went to be with the Lord Aug. 4. He was born June 1, 1951, to William and Martha Stewart Wooten in Freeport, Texas. He graduted Longview High School in 1970. He attended Kilgore College one year. He married Joan Cockerell, daughter of Modene Knight Thornton, April 17, 1971. He was a member of Alpine Church of Christ in Longview. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, and playing his clarinet.

Jo Helen Strickland, 69, of Fairfield, passed away Monday, August 11, in Dallas. She was born September 11, 1946, to John and Mable Grogan. She was a wonderful cook; enjoyed gardening in her yard and was very crafty with arts and crafts and sewing. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by: her parents, husband Alvie Paul Strickland Sr.; daughter, Tammy Jo Strickland; and sister, Betty Johnson.

Rebecca York, 46, of Fairfield, died Thursday, August 11, in Tyler. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 15, at Capps Memorial Chapel with Bro. Don Vail officiating. Interment followed at Stewards Mill Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Bradshaw, Austin Bowling, Brian Stacy, Kris Stacy, J. P. Baker, and Elbert Manor. Rebecca was born October 13, 1969, in Grapevine, to parents Bill and Loretta Freestone Baker. She had been a Fairfield resident since 2001 moving here from Southlake. She married Justin York in November 2004. She was employed with the Fairfield Independent School District and was a member of Caney Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by: her mother, Loretta Baker in 2007; and a brother, Jody Baker in 2013.

The loving family and devoted friends of Mrs. Mildred Zackery let her go with the Angelic Hosts on Monday, July 4, at her Mexia LTC residence. A viewing was held from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, July 8, at the funeral home and from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 405 S. Belknap Street in Mexia. The family was available at the church from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, in the First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Canton in Mexia. Interment was held in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hwy 84 West in Mexia. Mrs. Zackery was born in Limestone County to Linsey Jack Freeman and Viola Hampton Freeman Rhodes. She grew up in Limestone County, was a Life Member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, graduated from Dunbar High School in Mexia with the Class of 1954, and was a Drum Major for the Mighty Dunbar Dragon Band.

Carmen Louise Orand, 77, of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, July 9, in Tyler. She was born May 24, 1939, in Denison, to Rover Farmer and Ruby Mae Crow Farmer. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Harold (Shug) Orand; and sons, Vernon Leo Webster and Mark Anthony Webster. She is survived by: children, Paul Webster and wife, Elisa, of Teague; and Theresa Brown, of Dallas; nieces and nephews, Donna and Jerry Burch, of Burleson; Lorene Farmer, of Austin; Arlene Ruiz and Mike, of McKinney; Janice Solis and Lupe, of Itasca; Lori Crampton, Jerry Mayton, Jr. and Stacy Ricketts; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many more family and friends.
