The loving family and devoted friends of Mrs. Mildred Zackery let her go with the Angelic Hosts on Monday, July 4, at her Mexia LTC residence. A viewing was held from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, July 8, at the funeral home and from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 405 S. Belknap Street in Mexia. The family was available at the church from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, in the First United Methodist Church, 203 N. Canton in Mexia. Interment was held in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hwy 84 West in Mexia. Mrs. Zackery was born in Limestone County to Linsey Jack Freeman and Viola Hampton Freeman Rhodes. She grew up in Limestone County, was a Life Member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, graduated from Dunbar High School in Mexia with the Class of 1954, and was a Drum Major for the Mighty Dunbar Dragon Band.

Carmen Louise Orand, 77, of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, July 9, in Tyler. She was born May 24, 1939, in Denison, to Rover Farmer and Ruby Mae Crow Farmer. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Harold (Shug) Orand; and sons, Vernon Leo Webster and Mark Anthony Webster. She is survived by: children, Paul Webster and wife, Elisa, of Teague; and Theresa Brown, of Dallas; nieces and nephews, Donna and Jerry Burch, of Burleson; Lorene Farmer, of Austin; Arlene Ruiz and Mike, of McKinney; Janice Solis and Lupe, of Itasca; Lori Crampton, Jerry Mayton, Jr. and Stacy Ricketts; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many more family and friends.

Elaine Ezell, 60, of Fairfield, passed away Monday, July 4, in Waco. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Capps Memorial Chapel with Rev. Terry Skinner officiating. Interment followed at Chancellor-Union Cemetery. Christine Elaine Minchew Ezell was born July 1, 1956, in Mexia, to parents John and Mary Schuster Minchew. She was a graduate of Mexia High School and earned a floral design degree from TSTI in Waco. She worked for a period of time at Mexia State School and was retired from Fairfield Independent School District. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was involved in the many youth programs within the church.

After a long illness, Mildred Ward went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 19, in Fairfield. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Capps Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Stanaland officiating. Interment followed at Lake Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Ward was born December 28, 1932, in Bedias, to parents Pierce O. and Mildred Bradbury Williamson; she attended Carl Wunsche High School in Spring. On August 5, 1950 she married Fairfield native Billy Jack (Bill) Ward where they celebrated God’s covenant for almost 66 years. Much of this time they lived in Houston where they raised two sons, John F. Ward, of Houston, and Jesse Alan Ward. In 1981 she and Bill retired and returned home to Fairfield. Mildred, or Aunt Mickie as she was known by so many of her nieces and nephews, was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, cook, and homemaker.

Hazel W. Hoeinghaus, 89, of Waxahachie, passed away Monday, June 13, in Waxahachie. She was born July 20, 1926, in Fairfield, Freestone County, to Clarence and Jessie Pearl Renfro Speed. Granny graduated from Fairfield High School in 1943 and married Oscar Carl Henry Hoeinghaus on January 27, 1945. She loved cooking and baking and she was excellent at both. One of her favorite pleasures was to have family and /or friends seated at her table enjoying food she had prepared. Among the family favorites were her chocolate chip cookies and her Thanksgiving turkey and dressing. Family was especially important to her and she was extremely proud of her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Janie Newman Prestridge, 64, of Fairfield, left this world to take her place in Heaven on Tuesday, May 31. Visitation was from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Capps Memorial Chapel. A memorial service followed at 2 p.m. with Mr. Mike Prude officiating. Janie was born February 10, 1952, in Fairfield, to parents Dawson and Dorothy Davis Newman. She was a graduate of Neches High School. She was employed at Fairfield Hospital, ETMC-Fairfield and ETMC-Athens for over 30 years. Her greatest joy in life was spending time and playing with her great nephew and great-nieces, Alan, Christal, and Brandy Neal. Although she had no children of her own, she loved kids and they loved her. Two that was very special to her, then and now, Kevin and Brandon Fincher. She is preceded in death by: her grandparents, Will and Ellen Davis; Sterling and Agnes Newman; her father, Dawson Newman; a brother, Alan Petri; a brother-in-law, Gus Steiner; an infant brother; and a niece Brett Steiner.

Janice Poynor, 68, of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, June 1, in Fairfield. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Round Prairie Baptist Church with Rev. Chris George and Rev. Ed Ridge officiating. Mrs. Poynor was born August 8, 1947, in San Angelo, to parents Elgie and Flora Virginia Millsap Hilliard. She had been a resident of Fairfield since 2002 moving from Texas City. For a number of years prior to living in Texas City she lived in California. Janice and her husband, Robert, were married on July 18, 1989, in Texas City. She was a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church and a member of Walk to Emaus.

Funeral services for Mr. Henry Ellis Wynne were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Kirvin Baptist Church with Bro. Dale Hergett officiating. Interment followed the services at Woodland Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.

Gary Wayne Mennerick, 57, of Fairfield, passed away Saturday, May 28, at his residence. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Lake Chapel Cemetery. Gary was born August 22, 1958, in Dallas, to parents John Wayne and Ethel Carra Hancock Mennerick. He had been a resident of Fairfield over 15 years having moved from LaRue, Texas. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Zoch Construction. He and his wife, Sharon had been married since December 3, 2001.
