The modern life often takes away from traditional meal-time customs. Family and consumer science teacher Laura Craddick holds an annual Mad Hatter Tea Party for her classes to just have a “polite conversation” without any technology.

Craddick’s classes held this year’s Mad Hatter party on October 5. The skills developed for this party will apply to both social and private settings.

Councilmembers gave the go-ahead to a group of local men wanting to design a disc golf course at the city park. Mayor Kenny Hughes told the group to plan the course and bring the design back for council approval at the next meeting.

Andrew Weitner, pastor of New Life Church in Fairfield, and business partner Casey Wright – who also happens to be a professional disc golfer – plan to build a tournament ready 18-hole disc golf course.

The duo explained there are four courses of nine holes or less within 45 minutes of Fairfield, but their dream is to design one that will draw competitions – and, ultimately, revenue – to Fairfield.

In honor of Case Robinson, Fairfield Intermediate School is challenging each homeroom to make a 100-link kindness chain as part of their Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) project. Robinson, a fifth grader, passed away recently in a tragic ATV accident.

“Case was a respectful, kind, and enthusiastic student,” said FIS Principal Shetonia Scires in an email. “He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face.”

The school created the RAOK in his honor to spread kindness throughout the school and community. The school created the challenge for students to have something positive on which to focus in the days following Robinson’s death.

Another bridge project for Pct. 4

Pct. 4 Commissioner Clyde Ridge got approval from the court to seek bids in another bridge project on which he is busy working. The court okayed his request Wednesday, Oct. 17, for a bridge on County Road 1070.

“It’s on a bus route,” Ridge explained. “It’s in bad, bad condition.”

The plan is to widen the bridge, add a concrete deck, and drop more pilings to ensure a safer crossing. This bridge is part of the state program in which Ridge is involved where the state will renovate a bridge on County Road 1100 in exchange for his renovating this one.

Harrup inspired scarecrow wins

Article Image Alt Text

Residents took to Facebook to vote in the annual Scarecrow Contest, hosted by the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, choosing Cub Scout Pack 668 as the first place winner in the Youth division after the group dedicated their scarecrow to Keith Harrup. Military veteran Harrup recently passed away in a motorcycle accident and his son is a new scout this year.

“Honestly, we wanted to do it for his kids,” said scout mom Tiffany Williams. “His son is a new scout this year and we wanted to show our love and support to him and his family through the brotherhood of scouting, much like the brotherhood of all our armed forces.”
