Municipal annexation on Nov. ballot

Freestone County Commissioner's met Wednesday, July 11, to discuss the addition of municipal annexation to all countywide ballots for the Nov. 6 election. For some time, Freestone County residents have been circulating a petition regarding the annexation of outlying areas. These residents have gone through the steps needed to see this item on the ballot in the upcoming election.

Three arrested in drug bust

The Freestone County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) and Teague Police Department joined Friday, July 13, to apprehend a subject, in Teague, with a warrant. Upon arrival at the residence, FCSO Deputies Lt. Robert Willis and Mike Darby, spoke with two male subjects, John Crundwell, 39, and Joe Lane, 47, of Teague. Lane is the homeowner of record.

80 years young

Numerous well-wishers stopped by Armadillo Emporium Thursday, July 12, to wish Linda Emmons a happy 80th birthday. The still spry Emmons celebrated with a surprise party thrown by friends and family, including her two children Andy Don and Julee (pictured above). Guests enjoyed cake and a collage of photos from Emmons' life.

Dollar Tree sign installed

Fairfield's newest business, Dollar Tree, is coming along fast with workers installing the store's sign late last week. The store opening is slated for this fall. Dollar Tree is opening in the shopping center where Family Dollar is currently located and the River of Life Food Pantry was once housed.

Chief of Police reinstated

Police Chief Kenny Bulger

More than 50 Fairfield citizens filed into the City Council chambers for a regular meeting of the Fairfield City Council Tuesday, July 10. Citizens were in attendance to hear a decision regarding the possible separation from employment of Fairfield Chief of Police Kenny Bulger. Bulger was put on paid suspension over one month ago due to a complaint of hostile work environment.

I-45 wreck yields no injuries

A two-vehicle accident was responsible for closing the interstate last Thursday, June 14, in Freestone County. The roadway was closed for hours, with traffic being rerouted to Texas 75 and Fairfield Police Department busy directing the flow through Fairfield.

No injuries were reported and both accident victims refused treatment. Howard Lee, 43, was traveling northbound on I-45 in an 18-wheeler when he reportedly changed lanes and struck a 2003 Toyota Camry, driven by Dallas resident Jordyn Johnson.

89th annual Teague rodeo planned

Teague's Fourth of July UPRA-CPRA Rodeo is celebrating its 89th year June 28-30. The Teague Fourth of July Rodeo and Rodeo Parade will begin on Thursday, June 28. Line-up begins at 5:30 p.m. with the parade starting at 6 p.m. The rodeo parade will come down Main Street and march their way to the rodeo grounds.

FHS graduates gather for 60th reunion

The graduating class of 1958 celebrated the 60th anniversary of its graduation on April 7. The group met for lunch at Sam’s Restaurant in Fairfield, and traveled out to Chambers Creek Reservoir to the lake house of Mary Jane Alexander’s great-niece.

There they spent an afternoon of coffee and conversation. Attending classmates included Joe Neal Baker; Jeanette (Davis) LaFrentz and husband, Ralph; Preston Bonner; Mary Jane (Anderson) Alexander and husband, Phil; Buddy Aultman and wife, Jeanette; Emma Jean (Ivy) Vande Streek and husband, Wayne; June (Bray) Slagle and husband, Peter; Felicia (Speed) Lemons with sister, Margie (Speed) Carrigan; and Wanda (York) Sanders and husband, John Sanders, both from our class.

Exhibitors rack up blue ribbons at Home & Garden Show
