The Fairfield Eagles finished third at the Darrell Piske Memorial Powerlifting Meet at Fairfield High School on Thursday, Jan. 17.

The Eagles scored 30 points and were edged out by one point for second place by Rice. Corsicana won the meet with 47 points.

Fairfield had two weight class winners. Richard Charlson took first place in the 132-pound weight division and Jacob Espinoza was first at 114 pounds.

Charlson lifted a total of 700 pounds. That included a 275-pound squat, a bench press of 115 pounds and a 310-pound dead lift. He beat runner-up Jakob Jankowski of Dawson by 110 pounds.

Espinoza won the 114-pound weight class by five pounds. He had to come from behind in the final lift, the dead lift. Espinoza hoisted 295 pounds to give him a total of 655 pounds. That edged runner-up Jason Boykin of Corsicana by five pounds.

Boykin built up a 20-pound lead in the first two lifts. He began with a 245-pound squat, compared to a 230-pound squat for Espinoza. Boykin had a 135-pound bench press compared to 130 pounds for Espinoza. But the Eagle lifter saved his best for last and overcame the deficit to claim the title.

In addition to the winners, Fairfield also had two runners-up. Jar-Mychael Hudson was second at 181 pounds and Justin Abram was second in the 165-pound weight class.

Hudson lifted a total of 1,195 pounds, which was 65 pounds behind weight class winner Eric Dickson of Corsicana. Hudson began with a 500-pound squat. He followed that up with a 220-pound bench press and finished with a 475-pound dead lift.

Abram took second place at 165 pounds. He and teammate Alonzo Moffitt were tied for second with 950 pounds lifted. However, Abrams got the runner-up spot
