Freestone Co. Sailor Officially Announced Dead – TEAGUE – Eugene Debs French, aviation machinist's mate, second class, was officially announced as dead today by the Navy in its latest casualty list, which brings to 24, 797 the total casualties announced up to date. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.S. French of Teague.

Freestone County Man Prisoner of Japs in Phillipines – Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Loggins of Teague, have been notified that their son, Pvt. Larry A. Loggins, who saw action in the Phillipines, is a prisoner of the Japanese. Pvt. Loggins was reported “missing in action” after the fall of Corregidor. He was an employee of the Texas New Mexico Pipeline Company at Jal, New Mexico when he joined the Army in April 1941. He trained with Battery F. of the New Mexico 200th Coast Artillery (AA) at Ft. Bliss. Loggins attended Lon Morris College and was a star on the college football team.

Three Juveniles Draw Penalties For Crime – A hearing that was held for three juveniles before Judge R.W. Williford resulted in one of them being declared a delinquent child, probation revoked for another one, and case left pending for further advertisement of the third boy. The boys, according to the charges, had broken the left vent and door glass, torn distributor wires off, dismantled the air cleaner and thrown it into a pasture, broke hose to the windshield wiper, thrown the oil cap away, bent chrome molding and scarred the paint around the car window of a car belonging to Lee York on North Bateman Road. They also had thrown a radio, which had been in the car, into a water-filled ditch. Ted Snider was declared a delinquent child and sent to Gatesville. Steven Childress' probation was revoked and he was sent to Gatesville, also. Dale York's case was left pending for further advertisement.

Investigation Into School Burglary Is Continuing – Texas Ranger Johnny Krumnow of Waco and the Freestone County Sheriff's Department are investigating the burglary of the Fairfield High School and Fairfield Junior High School on Wednesday night of last week. Custodian Richard Bonner discovered the break-in early Thursday morning and called the sheriff's office and local school officials. Supt. Tom Cameron requested the aid of the Ranger's office in Waco and Ranger Krumnow responded. Officers made a complete and thorough exam of all damage and secured a number of fingerprints. Damage was estimated at approximately $200. The glass door to the high school administration office was broken as were two windows in the book room where the burglars apparently first attempted entry. Desks in all three offices were rifled and the contents emptied upon the floor.
