My name is Jeannie Qualls Keeney and I am pleased and honored to announce my candidacy for treasurer of Freestone County. I have spent the past 22 years of my life in local government and am currently serving as Assistant Treasurer under the current Freestone County Treasurer Kay Taylor. I have held this position for the past six years and have reliably served with honesty and integrity. During this time, I have been responsible for processing the payroll for approximately 120 employees, receiving and depositing of county funds, and performing the duties of the Country Treasurer in Ms. Taylor’s absence. Prior to my current position, I was employed in the Navarro County Auditor’s office for nine years. My responsibilities included managing and maintaining the county budget, maintaining the many grants associated with county projects, auditing payroll processes, and handling of account payables and receivables. These combined 15 years have provided me with a great opportunity to learn and understand the many complexities of the county financial systems and protocols. I am also proud of my seven years in law enforcement. I held a supervisor position for the Navarro County Sheriff’s office and also served for the Mexia Police Department and Freestone County Sheriff’s office. I grew up in Mildred, Texas but moved back to the Winkler area in 1990 to the Qualls family home place. A 1992 graduate of Fairfield High School, I met and married Wesley Keeney, my husband of now 22 wonderful years of marriage.
