Police are investigating vandalism at a historic cemetery in the Steward's Mill community north of Fairfield. Bonner Cemetery, one of the oldest in Freestone County, fell victim to destructive forces during the weekend of Oct. 28, and numerous headstones were uprooted and broken.

Police say substantial evidence was collected at the scene and has been submitted to the DPS Crime Lab in Waco for analysis.

The vandalism was reported by Tommy Robinson and Sheriff's Deputy Jack Wright responded to the graveyard on County Road 151.
