FISD utilizes new technology

Several Fairfield ISD teachers took a summer training class to learn to use the new Google Expeditions Virtual Reality Kits.

Thanks to a $10,000 grant Fairfield teachers are learning to utilize new technology for the upcoming school year. Fairfield Junior High School Media Specialist Tammy Gawryszewski wrote the Region 12 Technology Foundation Grant and hosted summer training sessions for the 30 virtual reality kits the district received.
Through Google, students can enjoy virtual field trips to more than 640 locations in – and out – of this world.
“VR is not to take the place of traditional lessons, but to enhance and improve on the experience,” said Gawryszewski. “VR makes the lessons memorable.”
Google Expedition Virtual Reality Kits currently offer 640 free field trips. The 360 degree panoramas and 3D images allow students to explore incredible locations while the teacher guides them along.
