There's a new sheriff in town

Jeremy Shipley (left) shakes hands with opponent Robert Willis (right) at last night's primary election. Shipley won the spot of Freestone County sheriff with 2,525 votes, while Willis had 1,062. Incumbent Don Anderson was voted out of office, netting only 951 votes. Opposing candidate Monte Doty ended up with 265.

County Attorney Chris Martin was voted out of office after 8 years and will be replaced by Brian Evans. Evans won the position with 2,310 votes, 50.9 percent, while Martin had 1,531, 34 percent. Opponent Andrew Wolfe received 692 votes.

There will be runoff elections in May for constable and commissioner seats, including between Precinct 3 Constable Diana Willis and Pam Brackens.
