Lady Eagles split with Groesbeck, Madisonville

2012-01-26 / Sports

Coach Stephen Heer’s Lady Eagles battered the Groesbeck Lady Goats early and often during District play this past week.

Fairfield jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead, and extended it into double digits in the second quarter.

The score at half was 33-17.

A 15-8 Lady Eagle surge in the third quarter made it 48-25 as Heers called on his bench to get some quality playing time.

The final score was 61- 32.

Jasmine Griffin led the Lady Eagles with 14 points, followed by 12 from Karonesha Lowery.

Ainsley Richardson and Fruncheska Daniels both scored in double figures with 10 points each.

Jermaca Brown scored 9, Gabby Ransom 3, Kathleen Chappell 2, and Bree Bossier chipped in 1 point.

But the game against Madisonville would be anything but easy.

The Mustangs raced out of the box to take the first quarter 13-4, and kept the pressure during the second quarter for a 23-10 halftime lead.

Although the Lady Eagles outscored Madisonville in the third and fourth quarters, alas, it was not enough.

The final score was 42- 39, as the Lady Eagles proved they will not quit. They simply ran out of time.

The leading scorer was Bree Bossier with 9. Jasmine Griffin and Fruncheska Daniels each had 7. Gabby Ransom scored 5, Tiara Tatum 4, Jermaca Brown 3, and Ainsley Richardson and Kathleen Chappell each scored 2 points.

The Lady Eagles were scheduled to play Top 20 ranked Mexia in Fairfield on Tuesday night.
