Commercial steer project meeting set
An informational meeting will be held for any youth age 8-18 who would like to learn more and possibly participate in a commercial steer feeding project.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. Thurday at the Texas Agrilife Extension office in Fairfield.
For years, youth livestock projects have helped to teach youth responsibility and hard work, and the commercial steer project is one of the most beef industry related projects in which youth can participate.
The project involves feeding a pen of three commercial steers for a set period. These steers are then judged at a major stock show, such as Houston or San Antonio.
Youth participants keep records on their projects and are also tested on their knowledge of the beef industry through interviews and tests.
Anyone who is interested is invited to attend.
