LIQUOR ELECTION PETITION FAILS ON

SIGNATURES

County Clerk Henry McCormick reports that the petition recently circulated requesting an election for the sale of alcoholic beverages in precinct 3, Freestone County, failed to carry the required number of legal names. In order to present such a petition to the Commissioners Court for action the petition would have to be signed by 149 legal names.

Mr. McCormick said there were 178 names on the petition and only 97 were qualified. Some of the reasons he gave for illegal names of the other 54 were that they were not legible; or they were over 60 years of age and claimed an exemption without a supporting sworn affidavit; and failure to have tax receipt number opposite name on the petition.
