Hunter safety course offered
A Hunter Education Safety Course will be offered on Sept. 18-19 at the Freestone County Sheriff’s Training Center.
The course will be held from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday.
To register, call the Texas Agrilife Extension Service Freestone County office in Fairfield.
Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens will serve as instructors for the course.
This certification course is open to anyone nine years of age or older.
Any hunter born on or after September 2, 1971 must complete a hunter education course to legally hunt in Texas.
Children nine years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult 17 years of age or older who has completed a hunter education course.
Youth ages 9-16 must successfully complete a hunter education course or must be accompanied by an adult 17 years of age or older who has completed a hunter education course.
Anyone born after September 2, 1971 who is 17 years of age or older must also complete a hunter education course or purchase a “Hunter Education Deferral” and must be accompanied by an adult 17 years of age or older who has completed a hunter education course.
