Eagle Field tilt makes history
Eagle Field was the site of a little football history last week when the Snook Blue Jays lined up for their first varsity game since the 1950s.
The Blue Jays fell to the Riesel Indians 46-0.
Fairfield Independent School District athletic director Darrell Piske reports that the game was played Thursday night in Fairfield because the Riesel field was not in game condition.
A junior varsity game between Riesel and Brownsboro was played prior to the varsity contest.
Snook discontinued football in the 1950s and concentrated on basketball, winning 10 state titles in Class A and Class AA.
A couple of years ago, Blue Jays football started a revival and the team played a junior varsity schedule in 2009 against Class AA teams.
University Interscholastic League realignment in February placed Snook in District 13-A, Division II with Burton, Bartlett, Granger, Milano and Holland.
Riesel is a slightly bigger school district, competing in District 8-A, Division I.
