Fairfield’s city secretary, Jana Taylor, hosted the central Texas Municipal Clerks Association’s quarterly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 18. Eighteen people were in attendance at the lunch meeting held at the city conference center.

Central Texas Municipal Clerks is one of 16 chapters of the Texas Municipal Clerks Association (TMCA), Inc. The association’s principal mission is to motivate Texas city clerks/secretaries to become leaders in their fields of governance.

“TMCA provides opportunities for the professional development of municipal clerks through interaction, continuing education seminars, a certification program, and Yahoo! Group,” says Mrs. Taylor. “Membership in this association has given me the opportunity to network with colleagues from nearby cities, participate in educational opportunities, as well as receive and give peer recognition and support.”

Mrs. Taylor is enrolled in the association’s Texas Municipal Clerks certification program, a professional development program with college/universitylevel courses. “I’m enrolled in the first of four required courses and have attended four of the eight required seminars,” says Mrs. Taylor.

Fairfield’s city administrator, Jeff Looney, states, “The certification program provides current insight into such areas as public relations, interpersonal communications, and community organization that will enhance Mrs. Taylor’s knowledge.”

Mrs. Taylor presented each member with an apron decorated with

The city of Fairfield provided attendees with ‘Shop Fairfield, It’s a Community Investment” gift bags which included coupons and promotional items including lip balm, visors, Fairfield city maps, pens, notepads, etc. from area businesses.
