But, numbers expected to increase . . . School count down on first day

Student count for the first day of school across Freestone county dropped by 41 students but is expected to increase during the week.

A total of 3,620 students answered roll calls Monday, compared to 3,661 on the first day of school in 2009.

Largest enrollment, 1,737, is in Fairfield Independent School District.

That figure is down from 1,807 a year ago, but 12 more students enrolled Tuesday morning and more are expected. FISD ended the 2009-2010 school term with 1,794 students.

FISD numbers by campus are: senior high, 498; junior high, 373; intermediate, 418; and elementary, 448.

Teague ISD also shows a slight drop on the first day of classes—-1,199 students reported Monday, compared to 1,219 a year ago.

Campus numbers in Teague are: senior high, 258; junior high, 258; intermediate, 208; and elementary, 417.

Wortham counted more students Monday than they did a year ago. Roll call Monday was 524, compared to 492 on the first day of school in 2009.

Student counts by campus in WISD are: senior high, 170; middle school, 115; and elementary, 239.

Dew ISD, which runs through eighth grade, had 160 students show up Monday, up from 492 a year ago.
