Dear Editor:

The saga continues. The Lone Star Rural High School District residents hope our neighbors and friends are gaining an understanding of our commitment to change the current situation of the local school district boundaries.

We appreciate all the local support of the communities. The petition signing is nearing our goal. The journey is not yet over! But there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The voters and taxpayers of the former Lone Star Rural High School district request these boundary changes for the following reasons:

1. No student should have to meet a school bus in the dark before 6 a.m. to travel across the county to start school at 8 a.m. or later. Then return home after dark.

2. Families have reluctantly moved from “Lone Star District” to Buffalo or Centerville ISD so their student can attend the chosen school. This flight from the area has occurred over a number of years. In addition, families are reconsidering their desire to move to the country without the guarantee their students will attend the school of their choice.

3. Parents and students are privately concerned they will be forced from the school they choose to attend. There is a possibility of additional fees for out of district students as more request to be enrolled.

4. Our tax revenues go to the district of residence though the student may be enrolled in a competing district.

We contend that Oakwood ISD does have options available to them. We continue to hope that all three local school district trustees will agree to change the boundary lines and move toward the goal of student oriented decisions to improve the options for all area students, present and future.

Respectfully, Barbara Johnson
