RICHARD ROBBIN WYLIE, JR.

Funeral services were held Friday in Teague for Richard Robbin Wylie, Jr., 87, who died last Wednesday at his residence in Teague surrounded by his family. Interment followed services at Greenwood Cemetery.

Wylie was born to Richard Robbin Wylie, Sr. and Dulce Blanch of Teague on Dec. 23, 1923.

He volunteered for the military on Sept. 8, 1941 and was assigned to the 2nd and 6th Divisions of the Marines where he served during World War II.

Wylie also served overseas from Oct. 20, 1942 to Nov. 21, 1944, in American Pacific, Guadalcanal, Tarawa and finally in Saipan where he was wounded on June 22, 1944. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Wylie was discharged on Oct. 10, 1945.

After serving his time in the military, Wylie went to work for the railroad. After 30 years of working, he was able to retire.

Wylie loved to hunt, fish and spend time outside.

He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church.

Wylie is survived by daughters Debbie Foster and husband Dan of Ft. Worth and Elisa Webster and husband Paul of Teague; grandson Jeremy Cox and wife Melody of Teague; granddaughter Kristin Byrd and husband Cephas of Teague; greatgrandchildren Matthew Cox, Nathan Cox and Rebekkah Byrd of Teague; brother Earle Wylie of Teague.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Geraldine Wylie.

Brother Otis Conner officiated.

Making arrangements was Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.
