Congressman plans meeting in Fairfield
Freetone county residents can meet with U.S. Rep. Joe Barton during a town hall meeting on Thursday, Aug. 12.
The meeting is from 2-3 p.m. at the county courtroom of the courthouse in Fairfield.
Barton is conducting a listening tour throughout from Corsicana to Crockett, Midlothian to Mansfield this month.
The meetings are a chance for the congressman to update constituents on happenings in Washington, D.C., and to hear about issues of concern to voters.
“My fellow Republicans and I have refocused our efforts to put people at the center of our legislative plan. Using the revolutionary website AmericaSpeakingOut.com, hundreds of thousands of people have already shared their ideas,” Barton says. “My upcoming town halls are an extension of that effort.”
He also has set up a special email address, white.board@mail.house.g ov to gather ideas from constituents.
“I am hoping we can build on the passion we saw last summer when record crowds came out to my town hall meetings—- close to 5,000 overall. Most wanted to express anger over the Democrats’ proposal for a government takeover of the nation’s health care system,” the congressman says.
Other town hall meetings in the area are Aug. 12 from 5-6 p.m. at the Navarro county courthouse in Corsicana and Aug. 17 from 5-6 p.m. at the Leon County Annex in Centerville.
