The vehicle crashed on I-45 north of Fairfield when it experienced tire trouble. (See story p6-a) Two people were ejected and taken by helicopter for medical treatment in a 1- vehicle rollover last Thursday on I-45 about 12 miles north of Fairfield.

The wreck occurred about 10 a.m. when the tread on the right rear tire of a Ford Expedition separated, Department of Public Safety Trooper Curtis Putz reports.

When the tire tread separated, the vehicle swerved to the right and driver Maria DeLeon, 44, overcorrected to the left, causing the vehicle to roll, Putz reports.

The Expedition, which was northbound, rolled over a cable barrier dividing the north and south lanes of the interstate and came to rest on the driver’s side in the southbound lanes of traffic.

Putz reports that there were five passengers in the vehicle and that 16-yearold Whittney Davis and 13- year-old Alexandria DeLeon were ejected. Misses Davis and DeLeon were not wearing seat belts, the trooper notes.

The two teenagers were taken by medical helicopters to a Dallas hospital.

Mrs. DeLeon and passengers Esther Davis, 43, and Maria Cashanova, 48, were transported by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center for treatment.

Escaping injury in the wreck was passenger Dominique Davis, 12, the trooper reports.
