Grady L. Banks, Sr.

Funeral services were held July 16 for Grady L. Banks, Sr. of Fairfield, who died July 9 in Mesquite.

Pastor Bishop Neaul J. Haynes and eulogist Bishop Torrence Johnson led the service, which was held at Saintsville Church of God in Christ in Dallas.

Interment was at DFW Military Cemetery in Dallas.

Grady Leon Banks, Sr., "Day", was born Aug. 28, 1928 in Fairfield to Waymond Banks and Ella Peterson. He attended and graduated from Dogan schools, and later joined the U.S. Army, where he earned an honorable discharge.

Mr. Banks married Vernell Weaver, and the couple had four children.

A truck driver at Gram Paper Company, Mr. Banks later opened his own service station and tire shop in Ft. Worth. A sec- ond service station was opened and run by his wife and sons. Mr. Banks and his brother Raymond also owned a mobile tire repair company.

To care for his father, Mr. Banks and his family moved to Fairfield, where he became a driver for Johnson Trucking Company and later Lyle Oil Company.

After his father died, Mr. Banks and his family moved back to Dallas where he was employed at his nephew J.L. Fantroy's security service.

With a strong faith, Mr. Banks served as head deacon, finance chairman, Sunday school superintendent and in many other areas at Grace Cathedral Church.

Mr. Banks was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, eight brothers, sons Curtis and Joe Banks, grandson Montral Banks and son-in-law Willie Lee Dowell.

Survivors are his wife Vernell Banks, son Grady and wife Shelia Banks of Balch Springs, daughter Ella Jean Banks Dowell of Fairfield, granddaughter Charamine Banks of Dallas;

Brother W. Leo O. Banks of Dallas, brothersin law Bishop Tarance Johnson of Dallas, Albert Weaver of Corpus Christi, Efford Ashberry of Palestine, Bill Weaver of Dallas and Ocie Weaver; 12 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren, and a host of other friends and relatives.

Pallbearers were Marvin Fantroy, Dwayne Banks, James Callaway, Sr., Marvin Banks, Frank Banks, Jr., and Mitchell Banks. Honorary pallbearers were the ministers and deacons of Grace Cathedral Church.

Arrangements were made by Golden Gate Funeral Home of Dallas.
