Tea Party plans first county meet

The Freestone County Tea Party that formed recently holds its first meeting Tuesday in Fairfield.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at 306 N. Fairway, the Kaydale Building.

Guest speaker is Toby Walker of Waco Tea Party who will provide information on Tea Party successes and guidance to the Fairfield organization.

The Freestone county group already has attracted more than 40 persons.

“We are very pleased with that,” vice president and cochairman Ann Gokey says.

President and co-chairman is Karen Albright and secretary-treasurer is Debbie Waddell.

Mission statement for the Freestone county group explains that it is a grassroots, nonpartisan organization dedicated to educating citizens and assisting them to become more informed, involved and active in the political process.

The group believes in constitutionally limited government, fiscal responsibility and free markets.

Purpose of the county organization is to be an advocacy organization and be a citizen watchdog holding elected and appointed governmental officials accountable to citizens.

Freestone County Tea Party does not endorse or support political candidates or parties, and does not engage in social issues.

A “November to Remember” Tea Party rally is set this Friday at Waco Convention Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the rally starts at 6 p.m.
