Dr. Allen Hicks Funeral services were
Funeral services were held July 10 for Dr. Allen Greer Hicks, 67, of Teague, who died July 6. Graveside services were held at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague.
Dr. Hicks was born in Teague on November 20, 1942 to Margaurite and Jimmy Hicks.
In 1966, he earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Texas A & M University after graduating from Tarleton State University. He proudly served the citizens of Freestone and surrounding counties through Freestone Veterinary Hospital for over 40 years. Among many things, Dr. Hicks truly valued his clients and was well-known for treating animals at his home during all hours. As needed, he would refer cases to A&M and they were often quoted as saying with confidence, “If Doctor Hicks said that’s what they have . . . then we’re sure that’s the correct diagnosis.”
In addition to his career, his hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and his grandsons; however, Dr. Greer was best known for doing whatever he wanted . . . whenever he pleased.
Dr. Hicks will be greatly missed by his wife of 45 years, Claudette Hicks; son, Bradley and wife Erin Hicks of Fairfield; sisters, Bobbie Hicks of Teague and Joyce Nichols and husband Kenneth of Teague; nieces Kim Pendergrass and Kristin Carpenter both of Teague and his precious grandsons Greer and Holden Hicks of Fairfield.
In rememberance, the family request donations be made to the Dr. Allen Greer Hicks - Freestone Veterinary Hospital Scholarship Fund established at Community National Bank in Fairfield and Prosperity Bank in Teague.
Fairfield and Teague graduates will be eligible to receive the scholarship.
