Third girl hospitalized in Tyler . . . ATV rollover kills 2 girls
Two girls died and a third is in critical condition as the result of a 4-wheeler wreck Friday afternoon on CR 320 east of Fairfield.
Killed were Lenesha Durham, 15, and Ladaria Hill, 15, both of the Houston area.
Hospitalized in Tyler is Kywanna Patman, 15, also of the Houston area.
The wreck was reported at 3:53 p.m. by a passing motorist who noticed Miss Durham, who was lying in the roadway, signaling, Department of Public Safety Trooper Rickey Jones reports.
Miss Durham was pronounced dead by Peace Justice Theresa Farris, precinct one, at East Texas Medical Center and Miss Hill was pronounced dead at the scene by Peace Justice Shirley Mays, precinct four.
A medical helicopter flew Miss Patman from the scene to a Tyler hospital.
The DPS trooper reports that the three girls were visiting relatives of Miss Durham who live on CR 320 near Butler.
The girls were riding a Honda 450 all terrain vehicle westbound on the county road when they failed to negotiate a curve and skidded off the road, overturning the vehicle, Jones says.
Site of the wreck was about three miles from the residence of Miss Durham’s relatives.
Jones points out that the 4-wheeler is designed for only one rider and that the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed.
He also says that he does not know how long it took for the wreck to be discovered.
The trooper reports that Misses Hill and Patman were found lying off the roadway and Miss Durham was on the road, but it has not been determined if Miss Durham crawled to the road after the wreck.
