Grand jury hears felony charges
Felony criminal indictments were handed down by the Freestone county grand jury in 23 cases against 18 defendants.
The grand jury convened for its regular monthly session on Wednesday, June 30, in the courthouse in Fairfield.
Charges on which action was taken include forgery, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful restraint, engaging in organized criminal activity, possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility, hindering apprehension, manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated, assault, aggravated assault and injury to a child.
Indicted by the grand jury are:
—Lisa Renae Turner, 34, on a March 15 charge of forgery, alledgely passing a $235.50 forged check at Fisherman’s Point on the account of Benny Weaver of Athens.
—Justin Keith Fairless, 21 of Fairfield on a complaint of possession of methamphetamine on May 27.
—Ashley Michelle Kocher, 24, of Fairfield on a May 12 complaint of forgery, allegedly attempting to pass a $200 check forged on a bank account of Athena McWhirter of Fairfield.
—Vincent Lucero, 23, of Denver, Colo., on a charge of unlawful restraint, allegedly transporting a child under the age of 17 out of state without parental permission, on March 6.
—Alvin Claude Lindon, 47, of Mexia on a March 6 complaint of engaging in organized criminal activity, unlawfully appropriating a 20-foot utility trailer, gen- erator, steel and welding leads from Lide Industries.
—Johnny Charles Tomlinson, 51, of Bryan on a March 6 complaint of engaging in organized criminal activity, unlawfully appropriating a 20-foot utility trailer, generator, steel and welding leads from Lide Industries.
—Howard Eugene Awalt, 61, of Mexia on a March 6 complaint of engaging in organized criminal activity, unlawfully appropriating a 20-foot utility trailer, generator, steel and welding leads from Lide Industries.
—Howard Eugene Awalt, 61, of Mexia on a charge of possession of cocaine in Freestone county jail on May 18.
—Jimmy Lynn Dailey, 47, of Mexia on a March 6 complaint of engaging in organized criminal activity, unlawfully appropriating a 20-foot utility trailer, generator, steel and welding leads from Lide Industries.
—Allen Nelson Owens, 36, of Wortham on a charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution, allegedly concealing a suspect from arrest on May 25.
—Eduardo Martinez Espinoza, 26, of Garland on a Feb. 8 complaint of manufacture or delivery of methamphetamine.
—Jose Hernandez Cruz, 34, of Dallas on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a child passenger on April 11.
—Lynn Wayne Long, 43, of Buffalo on a May 15 complaint of DWI. The indictement shows two prior DWI convictions.
—Billy Wayne Tatum, 33, of Streetman on charge of felony assault, choking a family member, Jennifer Tatum, on May 26.
—Billy Wayne Tatum, 33, of Streetman on charge of aggravated assault, threatening Jennifer Tatum with handgun on May 26.
—David Ray Eudy, 38, of Buffalo on a June 9 complaint of assault, choking Brenda Eudy.
—Larry Lionel Fetters, Jr., 20, of Conroe on three separate complaints of injury to a child, allegedly running into and striking three children, on June 17.
—Dustin Wayne Carpenter, 27, of Teague on two separate complaints of DWI with a child passenger on June 2.
Two indictments remain sealed pending arrest of defendants.
