Sheriff’s Report
Sheriff's Report Number 492- We start out this week with the tale of a generous young man in our area by the name of Chandler, about 9 years of age. It seems that over the weekend, young Chandler mixed and cooked
large pan of fresh Brownies
Yum!) and carried them by the Sheriff's Office with a nice note that said "For all you do, Chandler." I heard nothing but rave reviews on the way those Brownies tasted, so Chandler, take it from me, your Brownies were the Number One Hit of the Memorial Day weekend for our Dispatchers and Jailers. They were all talking about how thoughtful you were.
Troubles at State Park, couple yelling and screaming at one another, one packed up and left…Bet that'll make the neighborhood quieter! Deputy Robertson and Deputy Shaw to East end of County on home invasion by boy friend which grew violent to an extent with one ripping the phone wires from the wall to stop the possibility of a call to 911. Kirvin VFD to FM-27, grease fire. FEMs and Butler VFD to FCR-261, older Lady very confused. Game Warden in pursuit, Richland Chambers, some on the Navarro side, some on the Freestone side….. Now wait, aw heck, I forgot to mention this wasn't in a car or afoot didn't I? Yeah, nothing simple like that…No, indeed. This was a chase between a Game Warden in his boat and a young Lady on her Jet Ski….It lasted until her Jet Ski ran out of gas…..Then, those magic words, "Gotcha!" Did I mention she had an 11 year old behind her during the waterborne evasion attempt. Yep, sure did. In Jail now, Evading, Failure To Identify and Endangering a Child. A pressing call came in by phone to Dispatch; Man wanted to ask a theological question about Jesus and John the Baptist, then he said something about Stargazers….and lost telephone signal. A call back to the same number got a voicemail that was never set up….so here we are with a perplexing question….and none to give our best estimates to! I've no idea what the particular question was, but feel certain that the following will stand in good stead for the time being- Pray, Go to Church, Believe, Follow those Ten Commandments…..That'll get you by for now and probably the rest of your life to boot!
FEMS to S. Bateman, Mother feared in middle of a stroke. One vehicle runs over wood in road, kicks up through air, strikes another vehicle breaking windshield. Caller upset because truck that kicked it up did not stop and we won't do anything about it. Sorry, if it had fell OFF that truck it would be a different story, but merely being run over and flying into the windshield is no different than a piece of gravel kicked up. If it fell OFF the pickup it would be there fault, but since it didn't, it's not his fault nor the person on the receiving end. It is just one of those things in life like having a blowout…..It just happened. Nobody at fault in the eyes of the law.
THDEMS to rural residence, Lady thinks she's had a nervous breakdown. TPD Cordova to Busby, unwanted female on property. Keys locked in vehicle at Teague DQ.
Had the U.S. Census Bureau come by for their 10 year visit here at the Office. Wanted to know the usual stuff, age, rural address (We live in the country west of Fairfield), how many in house, etc. Now, when it got down to the City, he informed me that I was, according to his information, a resident of Teague. I called the Post Office, gave my address, and yep, I was a resident of Teague, Texas. That didn't bother too much, one way or another, 'cause I knew already our little old Sandhill place wasn't going to be affected to a large degree, whichever town had to claim me. So, there I was, feeling a bit foolish due to telling folks for twenty years that our place was just a little west of Fairfield, etc…..But, it lasted about 8-10 minutes, this new citizenship deal….Yep, like I said, about 8 minutes or so….Then the Post Office called back, advised they'd looked at it closer, and no, they classed me as Fairfield again. So, all you Teagueites, you came within an ant's eyelash of having your population upped by me and the Missus, but just about the time I was getting used to it, this being from Teague deal, why they upped, and moved me back to Fairfield! I surely hope that they'll let me return that orange, stuffed Lion that I had ordered during that 8 minutes, while I was a Teagueite! So, here I am, back where I started…..Surely hope I don't completely fall off everybody's census, 'cause they might have to vote to take me back…..And nobody might want me!
