TWO OF THE RETIREES inducted into the FISD Educator Hall of Fame are Carroll Chappell and Jerry Brim.
Retirements, years of service and special accomplishments were recognized Friday at the annual Fairfield Independent School District Employee Appreciation Luncheon.
The event was held in the elementary school cafeteria.
FISD superintendent Katie Ryan served as emcee and the invocation was offered by school trustee LaCharles Bass.
A catered lunch was served.
Eight FISD teachers and staff members retiring this year are:
—Terry Dunlap, high school mathematics, 20 years with FISD.
—Earnest Griffin, transportation, 20 years with FISD.
—L.C. Hightower, elementary school paraprofessional, 17 years with FISD.
—Pam Jowers, prekindergarten, eight years with FISD.
—Donna Landers, high school English, 11 years with FISD.

Retirees were presented with rocking chairs, with the exception of Mrs. Dunlap who requested that a scholarship be funded in lieu of receiving a rocking chair.
Five former FISD staff members were inducted into the Educator Hall of Fame. Honored with induction are school nurse Eva Beth Shinn, mathematics teacher Carol Chappell, coach Jerry Brim and mathematics teacher James H. Ireland, Jr.
In a special tribute to Ireland, who died of cancer this year, FISD staff attended the event wearing maroon T-shirts emblazoned with “Blessed,” the standard greeting given to everyone by Ireland.

Receiving a service pin for 35 years with the school district is Sue Casey, high school PEIMS clerk.
A 30-year service pin is presented Carole Lacey, elementary PEIMS clerk.
High school Spanish teacher Edye Gillen-Hall and junior high social studies teacher Rodney Gillen- Hall receive 25-year FISD service pins.
Pins for 20 years of service are presented to Terry Dunlap, Rick Posey, Kathy Robinson, Kim Emmons, Janet Race, Mary Ann Masiel and Earnest Griffin.
Earning 15-year service pins are Shawana Hunter, Steve Gaines, Margaret Robertson and Dianne Hooks.

Athletic and acadenuc coaches received special recognition for helping Fairfield students advance to state competitions. Honored were band directors Bill Large, Russell Holland, Gust Witt and Paige Billings, FCCLA teachers Martha Holland and Laura Craddick, agricultural science teachers Steve Black and Daniel Phillips, academics coach- es Kathie Maciel, Deborah Hamilton, Arland Thill and Betty Gentry, and athletics coaches Davin Davis, Sally Whitaker, Stephen Heers, LaDonna Brackens and Dennis Johnson.

Special awards of honor and distinction earn recognition by FISD. Recipients are: Lesley Cain, Texas Comptroller’s Award; Melanie Schauwecker, Global Impact; Rachel Bossier, TAGT Outstanding Teacher of the Year; Nicole Crawford, Recycling Grant Honoree and Recycling Impact on FISD; Kerry Hand, Recycling Impact on FISD; Kim Emmons, Region XII Educator of Excellence;
ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC COACHES, and band directors whose students advanced to state level competition receive special recognition from the school district.
