Samuel Leanard “S.L.” Lambert

Funeral services were held Saturday for Samuel Leanard “S.L.” Lambert, 69, who died May 12 in Evansville, Indiana.

Services were held at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Oakwood, with pastor Ardis Crenshaw and Eddie Lee Gilmore officiating. Interment was at Bluff Cemetery in Oakwood. Pallbearers were Mr. Lambert’s nephews Jake Lambert III, Edwin Lambert, Victor Lambert, Jake Lambert IV, Joe Arthur Lambert, Terrance Lambert and Ivory Lambert.

Honorary pallbearers were Mr. Lambert’s classmates from St. Paul Shiloh high school.

Mr. Lambert was born March 19, 1941 to J.T. and Tebarcha Nickerson Lambert, the last of six children.

He attended St. Paul - Shiloh high school and was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. He married Dorothy Mae Paynes.

Mr. Lambert was employed with Sidney Myers-Wine Gardners, was a warehouse superintendent and a self-employed contractor.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Dwight Lambert.

Survivors are sons Jeffery Lambert of Evansville, Ind., Samuel L. Lambert of Washington, Ind., Orlee Lambert of Evansville, Ind., brothers Jake (Jewell) Lambert, Jr., of Houston, Bobby Joe Lambert, of Oakwood, Clarence (Collette) Lambert of Oakwood, aunt Nellie Emanuel, 10 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Emanuel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
