Fairfield high school recognized academic achievements of its students last week at its annual Honor Day assembly.
Awards were presented the top ranked students in each class, for perfect attendance, academic competition, civic service and in subject areas.
The highest ranked students at FHS is headed by the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2010. Valedictorian Lilly Duarte earned a 5.67 grade point average in four years at FHS and salutatorian Adam Chappell earned a 5.52 GPA.
Leading the freshmen class with a 5.37 GPA is Micah Hubbert, Kathleen Chappell posts a 5.28 as the top ranked sophomore and Cory Black heads the junior class with a 5.71.
Honor graduates this year are Miss Duarte, Chappell, Kaitlyn Palmquist, Daniel Wood, Lando Duarte, Jaymi McLeod, Morgan Fuller, John Horton, Haley Plemons, Lauren Jackson, Kalyn Caffey, Kayse Kirgan, Sally Taylor, Riley Jo Davidson, McKenzie Beddingfield, Jessica Gallegos, Colby Green, Mia Mayo, Rebecca Lyles, Evan Simpson, Adam Rhoads, Cally Hardwick, Sarah Linton, Taylor Adcock, Shekinah Davidson, Cheyenne Newman, Cortney Kahrs, Spencer Higgins, Whitney Roberson, Rob McCully, Reagan Amick, Amber Lehman and Ravi Patel.
The highest ranked students and honor graduates received academic medals.
Four students received certificates and pins for achieving the highest scores on the American High School Mathematics Examination. Honored were freshman Dalton Barker, sophomore Zach Prihoda, junior Cory Black and senior Lilly Duarte.
Black and Prihoda earned the highest scores at FHS and were awarded pins for that achievement.
Interact Club recognized students who contributed at least 100 hours of community service. Honored were Jermaca Brown, Blake Miller, Jaymi McLeod, Haley Plemons, Taylon Black and Brittany Watson.
A total of 16 students maintained perfect attendance this school year, with senior Ravi Patel completing four years of perfect attendance.
Attendance honorees, in addition to Patel, were seniors Patrick Beel, Emily Griffin (two years), Brady James (two years), Amber Lehman (two years), Evan Simpson, Willie Tatum and Michael Watts, juniors Cory Black and Jorge Espinoza, sophomores Kathleen Chappell (two years) and Zach Mims, and freshmen Ryan Bond, Ronnie Brewer, Valarie Fernandez and Nirmal Patel.
All sophomore students take the PLAN test sponsored by Texas Education Agency and the ACT, and 11 FHS students were recognized for meeting all four of the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks on the PLAN test.
Meeting those requirements were Alan Baker, Kathleen Chappell, Thomas Craig, Ty Ezell, Chelsea Farrell, Caleb Gunnels, Zach Mims, Zach Prihoda, Caleb Shannon, Benjamin Spradlin and Samantha Wemple.
Each year students are recognized for outstanding work in each subject area. To be recognized, a student may have the top grade, be most improved, or contributed the most to the class.

This year seven students advanced to the state University Interscholastic League meet. Those students are: Anna Marie Oglesbee, editorial writing; Jeffrey Procter, social studies; Dillon Smith, persuasive speaking; and the computer science team of Zack Borter, Matt Strube, Robb McCully and Adam Chappell.
Recognized for competing in the state track and field championships this month was senior Derekia Coleman, who ran the 100- and 200- meter dashes.
FHS has dominated UIL academic competition for the past two decades, winning the district academic championship 20 of the past 21 years. All students who participated in UIL academics were recognized.
Also, FHS has won the Spring Sweepstakes trophy for 20 of the past 21 years. Trophy points are earned through scores in academics, golf, tennis and track and field.
