FHS Eagles make All-District teams

Eight members of the Fairfield high school Eagles baseball team earn All-District nods this spring.
Selections were announced after District 20-AAA representatives were eliminated from post season play.
District 20-AAA champion Athens fell to Lufkin Hudson at the area playoffs, third place Crockett fell to Jasper at area and second place Brownsboro lost to Mexia at bi-district.
The 2010 edition of the Eagles finished fourth in district rankings with a 3-7 mark.
FHS players picked for first team All-District are sophomore pitcher Caleb Gunnels, senior second baseman Evan Simpson and senior third baseman Cullen Minze.
Making the second team are junior pitcher Justin Terry, senior infielder Garrett Wickens, senior outfielder Andrew Myers, sophomore utility player Josh Brown and junior designated hitter Michael Mooneyham.
On the mound, Gunnels posted a 4.38 earned run average and claimed one of the district wins. At bat, the sophomore posted a .350 average, .625 on-base average and counted a double and two triples among seven hits.
Gunnels was selected to the All-District second team as a pitcher last year.
Simpson is a repeat choice for first team, making it last season at an atlarge fielder.
The senior had a .906 fielding percentage and batted .400 with a home run and three doubles in 12 hits. He also put out 12 runners and made 17 assists.
Rounding out the first team list is Minze who posted a .882 fielding mark with nine putouts and 21 assists.
When batting, Minze had a .433 average and .545 on-base percentage. During the district season he got 13 hits, which included a homerun, a triple and three doubles.
Minze was a second team All-District pick a year ago.
Terry compiled a 6.00 ERA this season while striking out 18 batters and giving up 12 earned runs. He batted .249 with three doubles among a dozen hits.
The junior pitcher was a first team pick last year.
Wickens played shortstop for the Eagles, compiling a .867 fielding percentage, putting out 11 runners and making 15 assists.
The senior shortstop batted .364, getting a home run and a double among eight hits.
Myers played center field and right field for the Eagles, posting an .875 fielding mark. He batted .412 on seven hits.
Brown played first base and pitched as a utility player. He compiled a .920 fielding mark, putting out 16 runners and making seven assists.
The sophomore batted .368, getting seven hits.
As designated hitter, Mooneyham batted .294 with five hits, including a homerun and a double.
Spending time at the catcher and first base positions, Mooneyham had a .958 fielding percentage, putting out 17 runners and making six assists.
