Students to state in academics
QUALIFYING FOR STATE academic competition this week in individual events are: l-r, Jeffrey Proctor, Dillon Smith and Anna Marie Oglesbee.
Seven Fairfield high school students head to Austin this week to compete in the University Interscholastic League academic meet.
Competition is this Thursday-Saturday.
FHS won the District 20-AAA academic championship for the 13th consecutive
year in April and qualified 38 students to advance to the region meet.
The top competitors at region move on to state.
The Fairfield computer science team of Zach Borter, Adam Chappell, Robb McCully and Matthew Strube won first at district and at region.
Borter was third high individual at region and the FHS team swept the top spots at district—- Borter was first at district, McCully placed second, Strube was third and Chappell finished fourth.
Claiming first place at region in persuasive speaking, to go along with a first at district, was Dillon Smith.

In editorial writing, Anna Marie Oglesbee qualified for state with a third place region finish, and was second in the district meet.
Advancing to state in social studies is Jeffrey Proctor, third at region and fifth at district.
In qualifying for the state UIL academic meet, the students are elgible to apply for a Texas Interscholatic League Foundation scholarship when they are seniors.
