Lady Eagles play practices
The Fairfield high school Lady Eagles softball team could not get the bats going last week in a pair of games against Slocum and Mart.
Fairfield played the games as warm-ups to the start of post season competition next week.
The Lady Eagles won the District 20-AAA title and get a bye in the bi-district playoff round, advancing to area next week.
In the Slocum game, it was the fourth inning before the FHS nine got a hit, a leadoff single by Kayse Kirgan.
With Miss Kirgan on base, Mia Mayo was hit by a pitch, Becca Lyles grounded out to the pitcher and Miss Kirgan came home on a ground out by Riley Jo Davidson.
The Lady Eagles dropped a 4-1 decision to Slocum.
Also hitting safely were Erica Flori, a fielder’s choice single in the fifth inning, Miss Lyles, a double in the sixth and Felicia Lopez-Simmons, a single in the seventh.
Miss Flori started the game and went four innings, striking out six, while giving up six hits, walking six and allowing three runs.
Coming on in relief, Miss Kirgan struck out one, gave up four hits, walked one and allowed a run.
The Lady Eagles led briefly against Mart, but dropped a 7-1 decision.
In the first inning, Miss Kirgan drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Miss Mayo and scored on a double by Miss Lyles, giving the team a 1-0 lead.
For the rest of the game, the Lady Eagles got just one more hit, a double in the fourth inning by Miss Davidson.
Mart scored two runs in the second inning, one in the fourth, and four times in the fifth, taking advantage of eight Fairfield errors in the game.
Miss Flori struck out three batters and gave up nine hits.
