LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
New Leash on Life (NLOL) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization whose purpose is to save and find homes for as many unwanted or lost animals as possible. Our focus is to help keep the euthanasia rate down, as we do not feel this is the humane answer to the large stray pet population. One of our main goals is to educate people and provide information on a spay and neuter program. We are working with several veterinarians and officials in our area for better solutions to this ongoing concern. We have also recently opened an account on Petfinder.com and are having wonderful response from people all over Texas and even out of state. Our own website, nlol.org, is also being actively looked at.
At this time, the only budgeted monetary support we receive is from Freestone county. The City of Fairfield has recently voted to lease us some land and has given us a small check, but Teague and Streetman have yet to help us financially. The majority of animals come from Fairfield and Teague and the county. The county money covers the expenses of county animals brought in throughout the year, but we will run approximately $40,000 short on keeping our organization going between Oct. 1, 2009 and Sept. 30, 2010, on the city animals.
We, the NLOL officers, directors and volunteers, which are few, have adoption days and fundraisers to raise money throughout the year and we also have kind-hearted people who donate money from time to time. This will be our first full year of operating to capacity and will cost around $5,000 a month to provide food, water, shelter, meds and pay our two part time workers and purchase a few needed materials. This is a no frills budget and lots of volunteer time and gas.
NLOL has at this time approximately 150 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies to care for. It is a full time job and an estimated 100 plus man hours a week with a lot of volunteer hours included. We need your help, please! With our 501 (c) (3) status, donations will be tax deduction for you. Certificates of appreciation will be given as follows: $2,500 and above = "platinum" donor, $750 to $2,500 = "gold" donor, $500 = "silver" donor, $250 = "bronze" donor.
For a minimum donation of $100, you may choose a NLOL logo cap or t-shirt. Please specify shirt size, S, M, L or XL in the subject line of your check or money order. Our "sponsor a pet" program would be a $50 a month donation or a yearly $500 donation and you would receive a certificate of appreciation. Please understand, no donation is too large or too small. Every penny counts!
We at New Leash on Life, would like to continue our work with animals. People lose their pets every day to death, injury, cancer, etc. and want to get another little furry friend to fill the void in their lives. Many animals come in with collars and we know they belong to someone, but they are only given a short 72 hours before being euthanized.
Please help us to continue our work by donating today. If you have any questions or need further information, call: Cindy - 903-388-9590, or Sharon - 903-388-7463. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
New Leash on Life Fund
Directors, officers and
volunteers
