Eagle thinclads qualify for region

Nine members of the Fairfield high school Eagles varsity track team qualify in six events to advance to Region III competition next month in Humble.
The thinclads qualified last week when FHS hosted the District 20-AAA meet.
As a team, the Eagles scored 130 points to finish second in district, behind Crockett which tallied 183 points.
Other team totals were: Palestine, 105; Brownsboro, 74; Palestine Westwood, 65; and Athens, 56.
The top three athletes, or relay teams, in each event advance to the region meet slated for May 3-4.
In the meantime, the Eagles will run a regional qualifiers meet this week at Eustace.
Senior Eli Pratt picked up a pair of individual gold medals by winning the discus with a throw of 145 feet, nine inches, and the shot put with a toss of 50- 5.5.
The pole vaulting duo of Jay Roberson and John Horton claimed the top two spots at district. Roberson cleared the bar at 13-6 to win and Horton cleared 13-0 for second place.
Distance runner Lando Duarte won the 1,600- meter race with a time of 4:43.67 minutes and the 3,200-meter race with a time of 10:36. Second place in the 1,600 meters was claimed by Eagles runner Javier Duarte, posting a 5:04.89.
The FHS 1,600 meter relay team ran a time of 3:30.26 to win. Members of the team are Rudy Costillo, Willie Tatum, Caleb Grant and Fernando Bonilla.
Although they do not get to continue to the region meet, several Fairfield junior varsity thinclads turned in top performances.
The jv 1,600-meter relay team was clocked at 3:51.33 for first place. Team members are Will Akers, Derek Coleman, Darius Roberts and Colten Henson.
In discus, Eden Richardson won with a throw of 116-0 and Zach Pratt threw 108-5 for second place.
Pole vaulter Hayden Hill cleared the bar at 5-6 to place second in the jv event.
