TSAC plans art programs

Second year begins . . .

Plans are underway for Trinity Star Arts Council’s second year, and include “All That Jazz”, “Mementos and Miniatures”, Graham Williford Foundation for American Art Exhibit, book reviews and children’s programs.

Other possible programs are a theater production, culinary event/class, photography workshop/contest, choral performance, student scholarship and literary programs.

TSAC, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, was formed last year when interested citizens in the Freestone county area met to discuss integrating varied arts into the community.

Texas Commission on the Arts research shows a strong correlation between fine arts education and achieving success in school and work, says council member Janie Richards. The quality of life in communities is improved as people attend art events. The added bonus is that the arts help stimulate economic development in the area.

TSAC provides opportunities for persons to participate in arts related activities. Several successful events were hosted during the past year that received positive feedback from attendees. Included was “All That Jazz”, a concert presented by two jazz musicians for 60 guests at the historic Dent home, and “A Jewel of a Gallery”, a world-class collection of paintings from the Jean and Graham Devoe Williford Charitable Trust, displayed one evening at the Williford Foundation offices. Kim Tomio, director of the Tyler Museum of Art, acted as docent. A classical guitarist entertained and some 70 guests attended.

Open House was held at the Williford Foundation during the 2009 Christmas Parade, and TSAC entered the Fairfield Christmas Parade, and a presentation was made to Fairfield Independent School District administrators by Dr. Frank Dent, of New York, who elaborated on a marionette presentation for students: “Mementos and Miniatures”.

Serving on Trinity Star Arts Council board of directors with Mrs. Richards are Beverly Awalt, Loften Dunlap, Julie Ann Medford, Dianne Murden and Kevin Moller.
