LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Mr Reavis:

Today I received my copy of The Fairfield Recorder and I am compelled to write this letter to commend you on your most sensible and truthful article. I was so pleased to finally read something about the Health Care Reform Bill that was both accurate and non biased.

I have been so disappointed with the attitudes and outright displays of hate for our President that I have seen displayed by many of my neighbors and friends. I feel that most of the mis-information and down right lies that have been spread about the Health Care Reform Bill have nothing to do with the actual bill, itself. I believe that there is a more hateful reason behind the opposition. But, even if I am wrong in that belief, I still think it’s absolutely shameful how those opposed to the President have been able to polarize good people and turn them into a hateful mob. They have been able to turn them into a group of people who refuse to hear or believe the truth. I have heard good intelligent people make some of the most ridiculous statements ever uttered. Such as, “Keep your Government hands off my Medicare”, begging the question , who do they think administers Medicare?

Whether a person supports President Obama, or not, is not a reason for the hateful attitudes and calls for violence that have been expressed, as far as Health Care for those who need it, are concerned. Every time an opposing Politician uses the very inappropriate phrase “Obamacare” it is an insult to the listener’s intelligence. It implies that affordable and good Health care for him and his fellow human is something bad. I am absolutely amazed that they have been able to convince seemingly intelligent and good people that this is wrong and somehow bad for them. I can’t, for the life of me, imagine how anybody could be against or be an obstruction to anyone who is sick, disadvantaged or for whatever reason in need of Health Care. I don’t care how much it costs, Health Care and any technology or treatment that is able save a life or to make another persons life better is a basic right, no matter who they are.

A good Christian might think that the development of a life saving treatment, is given to man, by God, to share with his fellow man, without thought of what it might cost. If this country can find the Billions that is required to fight the wars that are being fought and if we can spent Billions making weapons and supporting other countries, who sometimes don’t even like us, some who actually pray for our demise, we must spend whatever it takes to help our own.

I am so sick of the political games that are being played at the expense of us all, We all must wake up and realize that we are being sorely used as pawns in a game of opposing political parties where the ultimate goal is, political and profitable gain. Good, affordable, health care should not be a matter of politics and “ the have and have nots”, it should be a matter of what’s right and good for us all. Thank you for your good column.

* * * * * Dear Editor:

My family has been in business in Freestone county for over 60 years. I have often wondered why people go out of town to buy things without even checking on those same things in their own town or county.

The local business supports local events such as rodeo, county fair, baseball, school fundraisers, basketball, soccer, graduation, FFA, all school and church functions, and your families, grandchildren, cousins, etc. Local business supports benefits when families are in need.

But where do you go when you need something? Do you return the same generosity that these local businesses and people have given to you all these years?

I hope that you will think before you drive to Waco, Palestine, Corsicana or Dallas, who really does care about you and your family and community. Your local businesses!

I really think that people do not realize that if you do not buy things in your town, that you and your family are missing out because they are the people supporting your children, grandchildren and you.

No out-of-town businesses pay taxes in our town!
Thank you,
LaDonna Carroll Turner
