Attorney joins county
MICHAEL STRATTON
A new assistant Freestone county attorney, Michael Stratton, started work here last week, brings a couple of years experience as a prosecutor in Navarro county.
Stratton, 33, has been serving as assistant county attorney in Navarro until deciding to move south.
“I wanted to make a change,” he says. “If this week is any indication, this is probably the best professional move I have made.”
The new member of the office reports that he already knew County Attorney Chris Martin and is comfortable taking the Freestone county job.
“He needed somebody, and I needed to work,” Stratton says.
Duties of the assistant county attorney are to prosecute criminal cases in justice of the peace and county courts, and to assist the county attorney with district court cases.
Stratton is a native of Leesville, La., graduated Leesville high school in 1995 and, after a short time at Louisiana State University transferred to Baylor University to earn a bachelor of business administration degree in economics in 2001.
He earned a law degree at Baylor School of Law in 2005.
The 33-year-old worked two years practicing civil law at a Waco firm, then decided he would prefer working as a prosecutor and joined the Navarro County Attorney’s office for two years.
Stratton is the father of a son, Thomas, 6; and a daughter, Camryn, 4.
Outside work he enjoys hunting, fishing and watching sports.
