Seventh boys win meet
EAGLES SEVENTH GRADE hurdler Brockton Higgins finished third in the 110-meter race at the Fairfield Invitational meet.
Fairfield junior high school seventh grade Eagles blasted the competition to win their division in the Fairfield Invitational track meet last week and the eighth grade placed second in its division.
The meet was run Thursday at Eagle Field and included athletes from eight area schools.
Eagles seventh grade thinclads amassed 213 points for the team win, Athens placed second with 135 and Palestine Westwood earned 104 for third.
The eighth grade division was won by Athens, 142 points, Fairfield was second with 124 and Westwood earned 123.5 for third.
On their way to the team victory, the seventh grade Eagles won six events.
Claiming first in two events was Raheem Hayes, posting a time of 8:56 minutes in the 2,400 run and covering 27 feet, seven inches in the triple jump.
Winning two gold medals in pole vault, with an effort of 9-0, and in long jump covering 15-1, was Chance Carroll.
The 800-meter run went to Cam Adams in a time of 2:37.02.
Hoisting the shot put 34-3.5 for first place was Dedrick Garner.
Fairfield eighth grade thinclads won gold medals in four events.
Picking up a pair of individual first was Larry Rose, with a time of 55.41 in the 400-meter dash and a height of 5-2 in high jump.
Rose also ran with Cade Warren, Danny Cockerell and Keil Meredith to win the 1,600 relay in a time of 4:00.
Pole vaulter Coy Pierce clearned 8-0 to win the event.
